U.S. ARMY 41ST SPECIAL TROOPS BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 41st Special Troops Battalion (STB), also known as Special Troops Battalion, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, was stood up in the Oregon Army National Guard on 4 February 2006 at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, Oregon. With the activation of the 41st STB, the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team HQ and HQ Company was divided into two new companies: the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team Headquarters (located in Tigard, Oregon) and the HHC, 41st Special Troops Battalion at Camp Withycombe.

When it was originally formed, the subordinate units of the 41st STB included the existing 162nd Engineer Company at Camp Withycombe, reflagged as Company A, 41st STB; and the 241st Military Intelligence company at Tigard, Oregon, reflagged as Company B, 41st STB. The Battalion also stood up a brand-new Signal Company, designated as Company C and also located at Camp Withycombe.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 41st Special Troop Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) reflects the mixed heritage of the units that comprise it. A key is the symbol of Military Intelligence, while the lightning flash represents the Battalion’s Signal capabilities. The upright dagger denotes support for combat elements as well as military preparedness. Buff and scarlet in the shield are the colors of Support and Engineers, respectively. “We Will Prevail” was adopted as the unit motto at the time the unit crest was approved.
